The Boss Hoax
The most formidable anti-Trump hoax is perhaps harder to grasp, but it’s been there all along
Of course we know by now the fake narratives about Trump are a mile long, the list of puerile hoaxes was casually repeated by his opponent the other night.
But Trump himself noted the rapid shift in focus from the winner to the loser of the debate, and that’s a hint to where this is going.
It’s about Biden now. He can’t win. So will he or won’t he be the candidate?
Of all the lies propagated about Donald Trump, the one that probably resonates the most is the idea that Trump wins because Biden is a bad candidate.
In 2020 the country transitioned into legitimation crisis and arguably is now entering a constitutional crisis because he’s a bad executive, bad person, and a bad candidate. It’s true this lack of genuine appeal contributes to why the people overwhelmingly feel the last election was such an an obvious sham.
But that’s not why Trump wins.
Trump from the very beginning was a longshot. A joke of an idea, really. No political experience, not even a remarkable political knack. Just a guy with a strong opinion about DC and its state media. Just a guy with zero reservations about taking down the corruption infrastructure, just a guy who openly declared war on the 21st century Cosa Nostra, just a hilarious guy with charming dance moves who coined a positive message about Making America Great Again.
After a few months on the campaign trail it was clear all of these seemingly naive goals were exactly what would get him elected, because he answered such an important question for so many Americans: “Are We Done Here?”
With Trump, for the first time in many decades the answer to their question was no. Hell no. These Americans were done with the system, done with slick politics, they wanted the swamp drained, they wanted to tear it down. But in their hearts America wasn’t done yet.
The movement was so strong that without the propaganda machine and the hoax list, 2016 and 2020 would have been landslides. Clinton and Biden are not appealing personalities, but neither was Obama, when you’re aware of the acting job so many (including myself) fell for.
It’s now clearer than ever that Trump isn’t a Republican, and more importantly isn’t a politician. MAGA is a move to appropriate and dismantle the Republican Party, and rebuild it as a reform and anti-corruption effort.
The hoax of all hoaxes is that a vote for Trump is a vote against weak or frail candidates. The truth is Trump has always been and continues to be a vote against a failing system. When Trump talks about a failing country he’s of course not pessimistic about our people or potential, he’s being honest about what our leadership has done to the country we love. Anyone with half a functioning brain knows this system is broken, someone like Newsom acts outraged to hear it because he presides over the most visceral example of a failed state in our nation’s history, one that scarcely anyone visiting LA or SF is able to ignore.
But it’s true. The country is headed for irreversible decline if we don’t do this now. Of course Trump’s not the only one who will undertake an effort to save America, a great many will have to carry it forward. Trump however is the only way we get to the next step at this stage of the game, if we are going to try to make a go of it. He’s the OG visionary, fearless leader, he’s the warrior with the wounds to prove it. He knows this, he knows his own job is almost done and that the real work is just beginning.
They want you to believe the country is holding their nose and pulling a lever for an anyone but Biden. Why? Well, *pulls hoax list from coat pocket, clutching pearls with other hand* because… just look at this!
The Boss Hoax is that MAGA is a fringe cult, and Trump’s wider support is about Biden’s physical and mental decline. Wheeling his suffering opponent to the front of the stage as exhibit A, whether planned or not, whether he’s the candidate or not, is the strategy of the day.
But it’s still not going to work.
The people know what’s been done to Trump all along, what they continue to do in their increasingly malicious campaign to destroy him. The people also know exactly why it’s happening. And while we do currently have the worst president in American history, it has less to do with senility than corruption and a long career of lies. While Trump himself is partially responsible for shining a light on Biden’s obvious decline, he does this largely to illustrate the hit to our position in the world. Of course he’s going to take the bait when Biden says he can swing a golf club; he’s still Trump, after all!
(An excellent golfer!)
Don’t get it twisted. Trump’s advantage surely has some help from Biden’s unfortunate condition, but Trump winning isn’t about Biden Bad. It’s about the man who stood up to the establishment, who took on the most powerful mafia in the world, and did it without batting an eye.
Having a hero doesn’t make it a cult. It’s just the way the story goes.
Great take, as usual.
Interesting how 2024 is shaping up. The possible combination of a Trump re-presidency and the monumental Supreme Court rulings in the last week (Chevron doctine, et al.) could be absolutely earthshattering.
Then again, maybe the monster is too big to fail, in which case, we're all fucked.
